Director Paul’s Message

Aloha e Alakaʻi O Kauaʻi ʻOhana,

Welcome back, learners! We hope you are enjoying the final beautiful days of summer! There is a wonderful sense of excitement on campus as we prepare to welcome our learners back to school this Monday, August 4th. Remember Monday will be a half day for students. Kindergarten will be on a modified schedule as well to support a smooth transition to school for our little ones. Ms. Ellen will contact parents directly for that. The campus feels quiet without the cheerful energy of our keiki, and we cannot wait to have everyone back to kick off another amazing school year together.

Our entire staff has been hard at work this week, diving deep into professional development to ensure we are ready to provide the best possible learning experience for your children. We were especially energized by our collaborative staff book study on “Love and Logic.” This approach helps us build positive relationships and foster a classroom environment where students feel empowered, respected, and ready to learn. We are all excited to bring these supportive strategies into our daily interactions.

As we count down the last few days, here is a quick checklist to help ensure a smooth and successful start for everyone:

  • School Supplies: Please double-check the grade-level supply list to ensure your learner has everything they need for a great first day.
  • Label Everything:Please label all personal items, including water bottles, lunch boxes, backpacks, and jackets, with your child’s name. It helps us make sure lost items find their way home!
  • Review School Procedures: Take a moment to review the drop-off and pick-up times and procedures (page 7 of the handbook) to help our parking lot flow smoothly and safely.
  • Update Information: If any of your contact or medical information has changed, please be sure to update it with the front office as soon as possible.
  • Healthy Fuel: Remember to pack a healthy, hearty lunch and a couple of snacks to keep your learner fueled for a full day of fun and discovery.

We are looking forward to a year of growth, discovery, and community. Thank you for your partnership in making Alakaʻi O Kauaʻi Charter School such a special place. See you all on Monday morning!

Mahalo and malama pono,
