Director DJ’s Message

Aloha mai kakou to the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School, and we hope that this message finds you all in good health and happiness as we enter the last week of school before Winter Break. Mahalo nui kakou for your contributions to a smooth and successful 2024-2025 thus far. It is hard to imagine that we are almost at the midpoint of the school year. We appreciate your unconditional support of our school and look forward to our continued collaboration to improve education in Kaua’i.

We greatly appreciate the good work of Mr. Jon and Mr. Adam who consistently repair and construct on campus to improve our experiences. Two small examples of their outstanding skills occurred last week when they welded the soccer goals on campus and constructed a concrete walkway to the field. Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is fortunate to have two such dedicated staff members and we applaud their work.

Ho’omaika’i to everyone who participated in the annual school Spelling Bee where we witnessed over 20 rounds of outstanding spelling from our learners. We celebrate the school’s winners, AJ Gregorius and Orah McGee, and send them best wishes for the Kaua’i Spelling Bee happening in early 2025. We also wish to express our gratitude to Ms. Jynatha who organized this year’s event and to Ms. Patricia, Ms. Jennifer, and Mr. Adam, our talented judges.

Mahalo nui kakou to everyone who contributed to the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School entry in the annual “Lights on Rice” parade. Once again it demonstrated the strong bond in our learning community between the learners, parents, and the school. The weather cooperated near the parade start time and we enjoyed a festive adventure being part of this great event on our island. We greatly appreciate all the hours of effort put into the float by our dedicated Na Hoa O Alaka’i Parent Teacher Network and Mrs. Shay, who acted as our school liaison.

We are excited to celebrate another Spirit Week on campus starting on Monday so please check your previous ParentSquare messages for full details. The next school-wide Assembly is on Friday, December 20th at 9 am in the gymnasium. All members of our learning community are warmly welcome to attend.

A helpful reminder that the annual Winter Break will run from December 21st to January 6th inclusively. We look forward to students returning to school on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 for a full day of school.

Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
