Director DJ’s Message

Aloha mai kakou to the good people in the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School and welcome to the fresh new month of November.

Mahalo nui to all who contributed to all the festivities we enjoyed together during the month of October. The Spirit Week Dress Up Days demonstrated great creativity by all the students, staff, and parents who participated. The Middle School Halloween Dance was an outstanding success as the event was greatly attended by most of our Middle School students dressed in a wide array of costumes. The annual Trunk or Treat held last Thursday once again showcased the positive relationships in our learning community, and it was SO MUCH FUN!

Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School intentionally connects the students in various grades together to teach socio-emotional learning. All of our Middle School students are assigned to Elementary classes for the Morning Piko and Assembly so they can foster friendly relationships with each other. Our classes are also connected through “Classroom Buddies” where two classes from different grade levels come together for a learning activity. A perfect example of this program can be found in the Wala’au Weekly image  where the Kindergarten class and the Grade Four class participated in a learning activity involving pumpkin seeds.

Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School wishes to express our gratitude to Mr. Jon and Mr. Adam for their incredible contributions to our school. As we can all imagine, there are always countless items that need to be repaired on campus. We embrace a continuous improvement mindset so Mr. Jon and Mr. Adam are consistantly adding improvements to our campus. They are currently working on the addition of two more banks of lights in the gym and repairs to the roof of the gym to address the leaking rainfall water issues.

A helpful reminder that Tuesday, November 5th is the Federal holiday of Election Day and there will be no school for students or staff.

Best wishes to you all for a phenomenal November. Malama pono.
