Aloha mai kakou to the good people in the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community and we hope this message finds you all in good health and happiness as we move into the second half of the month of July.
Mahalo for your support of our unique charter school that features a remote rural campus nestled in a beautiful valley that enjoys an abundance of rain. Perfect place of a school and a perfect place for a school to have a garden.
Over the last several years, we have been fortunate to see several gardens get started on campus under the watchful leadership of our dedicated staff. We are amazed at the curiosity and work ethic of our learners as they take great pride in the plants that they grow, We currently have gardens that are maintained by our students in Kindergarten, Grade One, and Grade Two as you can see form this week’s photos. We do hope to expand the current garden beds so additional classes may participate and share in the importance of growing our own food.
We do wish to express our gratitude to those diligent staff members who helped look after the gardens during the summer break while our students were away.
We will be welcoming everyone for our annual Campus Cleanup on Saturday, July 27th with shifts at 8am to 9:30am and 9:30am to 11am. We look forward to seeing you on campus for this collaborative event which will give you an opportunity to check out the gardens on campus for yourself.
A helpful reminder that the first day of school for our students will be Monday, August 5th and we are excited to see our learners and hear all about their amazing summer break away from campus.
Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
