Aloha mai kakou to the good people in the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School. We hope this message finds you all in good health and happiness as we rapidly approach the midpoint of May. This is a happy reminder that the character trait focus for this month is TEAMWORK, and we look forward with great anticipation to seeing that trait on campus on Tuesday, May 14th, during the M C & A Day on campus.
Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is incredibly fortunate to be the recipient of the M C & A Day generous program as around 220 people will be coming to our rural campus to volunteer their time to help improve our school. “Dr” Jon has been working tirelessly behind the scenes ordering the materials and supplies to keep our kind volunteers busy during the day as you can see in this week’s photos. To ensure that our guests can travel in and out of the school, the road work to improve transportation was started last Wednesday, and we appreciate your cooperation with the traffic snarls that occurred.
We would not have been able to accommodate the program on our campus without the assistance of many others which is a shining example of the TEAMWORK in our learning community. We greatly appreciate our Hawai’i State Teachers Association (HSTA) members under the guidance of Ms. Charton who moved their professional learning day from Monday, May 13th to Tuesday, May 14th. In addition, we wish to acknowledge with great gratitude all the ohana in the learning community for moving this day around, as on Tuesday, May 14th, there will be no students on campus that day. We understand that finding childcare for many on a Tuesday is challenging, so moving the days around was not an easy decision, given the potential impact it may have on some families.
We are all excited to return to campus together on Wednesday, May 15th to see all the improvements that could be made in one short day.
Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
