monday message

Director DJ’s Message:

Aloha mai kakou to the good people in the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School and we hope this message finds you all enjoying your summer break away from the daily routines of being at school. The happy faces and cheerful voices are missed on campus and we look forward to early August when we are all back together in beautiful Kahili Valley.

Mahalo nui e Sean who came to campus this week to help our school transition over all the electronic devices we have on campus over to a new platform. Sean and the dedicated 12 month employees spent many many many (you get the idea) hours working on the hundreds of electronic devices last week and were able to successfully get everything set up for the 2024-2025 school year. We wish to recognize your generosity in supporting our Na Hoa O Alaka’i Parent Teacher Network as we have all worked prudently over the last four years to move our school to one to one devices for our learners.

Mahalo nui kakou for your patience as we worked on building the school leadership team for 2024-2025 school year. Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is thrilled to share the hiring of two top quality individuals to act as the Vice Principals to support our learning community. Kumu Nouveau is well known to everyone as he worked at our school last year in the dual role of Physical Education teacher and Ike Hawai’i teacher. Kumu Nouveau has extensive experience teaching in the Hawai’i Department of Education schools before joining our staff and has served previously as a Vice Principal on island. Geordan Kanelopoulos is also well known for his excellent work in the Hawai’i Department of Education as both a quality educator and school administrator. Geordan served as the Vice Principal at Waimea Canyon Middle School and brings a great deal of fresh knowledge and experience to our expanding charter school.

It is inspiring to spend time with two such enthusiastic administrators and looking forward to working with them both for the 2024-2025 school year in my continued role as Po’okumu. As you may recall it will be my joyful privilege to serve our learning community until June 2nd, 2025 which will give our dedicated Board of Directors ample time to search for your next Director.

Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
