Director DJ’s Message:

Aloha mai kakou to the good people in the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School. We hope this message finds you in good health and happiness as we head into the last week on campus for our students in the 2023-2024 school year.

Mahalo nui kakou to all the supportive people who came to campus last Friday for our school-wide project-based learning activity. It was an amazing display of a project-based learning activity deeply infused with Hawai’ian culture. Our students clearly demonstrated not only their learning but also their creative and artistic talents for all who attended. We had a professional crew come over from O’ahu to capture this wonderful celebration, and we hope to be able to share the video with our learning community this week.

Speaking of artistic talents, we look forward to our fourth annual Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School Talent Show, which runs on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. All parents and community members are warmly welcome to attend, and we start at 9:30 a.m. in the gym.

We express our gratitude to everyone who contributed to the second annual Grade Six Overnight Trip to Koke’e. The students immensely enjoyed the experience, which would not have been possible without your generous support of their weekly Snack Shop on campus.

With the school year’s conclusion coming, there is sometimes the sad news of a valued staff member moving on to new adventures. Our incredibly kind Nurse Jenny has accepted a new position and wishes to share this message with you all:

ALOHA!!! I just wanted to express how thankful I am to have worked with all of you. I enjoyed coming to work every day.

I’ll try my best to keep this short and sweet, but how do I accomplish that if there are just so many wonderful things to say? As some of you may know, I will not return next school year. While I’m excited about the new opportunity ahead of me, leaving AOK is definitely bittersweet. My first year on campus has been nothing but amazing. Thank you so much for welcoming me open-heartedly, and I’m especially grateful that you have allowed me to make my vision of a health room come true.

Thank you for this opportunity. I wish you all the best moving forward and success for the school. Thank you again for making my time here so amazing. I will miss you all!!!

Mahalo Nui Loa,

Jenny

This is a helpful reminder that our campus will be closed on Memorial Day in recognition of the selfless people who serve or have served our country.

Sadly, we share that the last day of school for our students will be Thursday, May 30th, with an early dismissal at 12:30 p.m. We immensely enjoy our time on campus with our learners, and their happy, shining faces and energetic voices will be missed during June and July on campus.

Best wishes to you for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
