Director DJ’s Message:

Aloha mai kakou to the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community. I hope this message finds you all in good health and happiness as we sadly approach the conclusion of the 2023-2024 school year. It has been an incredibly successful year of continued growth at our unique charter school, and we will miss the happy voices of learners on the campus during June and July.

Mahalo nui kakou for your support of the recent M C & A Day on campus last Tuesday, May 14th as we appreciate no school on a Tuesday can be challenging for childcare. Close to 200 volunteers from Pure Good Foundation came up the gravel road to volunteer their time and energy to 15 school improvement projects that day. In addition to the massive amount of people’s work hours contributed to the school, the Pure Good Foundation increased their donation from the original number of $125,000 to an amazing $245,000 as they were so impressed with the school. The additional funds will be used to construct two new classrooms to house Art classes and ‘Ike Hawai’i classes on mid-campus next year. We greatly appreciate all the insightful presenters from our school who spoke at their Opening Business Meeting and every single staff member who contributed to the success of this project.

We are excited to share that our school-wide project-based learning activity will be Hoike, and this wonderful event is scheduled for Friday, May 24th. Hoike is the next evolution of our annual Na Kupu Lau celebration, and all members of our learning community are warmly welcome to attend. We greatly appreciate the efforts of all of our students so they can showcase their learnings with you all. We also share our gratitude to our teachers for their guidance and especially both Kumu Noe plus Kumu Nouveau for their leadership in guiding this project-based learning activity.

Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
