Aloha mai kakou to the good people in the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School, and I hope this message finds you in good health and happiness as we move into the new month of March. With a new month comes a fresh character trait focus for the month, and for March, it is the dual words of EMPATHY and CARING. We are fortunate to see examples of these traits on campus on a daily basis.
We definitely saw a great deal of CARING with a dedicated group of volunteers who came to campus to teach bicycle safety to our students. They created bike obstacle courses in the gymnasium and challenged our student’s abilities to be safe, cautious, and courteous while riding their two-wheelers. In addition, the essential understanding of the importance of a helmet was highlighted for all.
Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School also experienced a great amount of CARING on our recent visit from the Hawai’i Charter Commission Renewal Team who came to campus to work in collaboration on our Charter Contract 4.0. We visited almost all of the classrooms on campus and spent time in deep discussions about the addition of Grade Eight to our school next year. Our guests certainly enjoyed learning from our keiki all about their project-based learning activities currently ongoing at our school.
Speaking of project-based learning activities, we wish to express our gratitude to all who attended the Grade Three Presentation of Learning in the gymnasium last Wednesday. We were blessed with robust attendance from our learning community and the school as we learned about various countries from around the world. The tasty foods that were prepared and served were simply outstanding and certainly added a new level of engagement for everyone in attendance.
Mahalo for your support of our unique charter school and best wishes to you all for a marvelous March. Malama pono.
