School news and events for the week of 09.23.2024

Aloha mai kakou to the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School, and hope this message finds you in good health and happiness as we sail through September.

Mahalo nui kakou for your support of our annual Jog-A-Thon that was held last Thursday on campus. Our school is fortunate to have such a strong culture of running and the students simply amazed us with their athletic feats. We look forward to both celebrating their success and holding the raffle prize draws at a School-Wide Assembly on Friday, September 27th in the gymnasium. All members of our learning community are welcome to attend to celebrate with us.

We also wish to express our deep gratitude for the generous financial support of the Jog-A-Thon as this event is our major fundraiser of the year. Many people are not aware that charter schools in Hawai’i receive only half of the educational funding that our colleagues in the public schools are given. In addition, charter schools must pay for their facilities and for the transportation of our students which costs Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School hundreds of thousands of dollars each year from our annual budget. As all of our employees are unionized and paid the same wages as the Hawai’i Department of Education, it does become extremely important for us to host the annual Jog-A-Thon to be able to continue to offer high-quality FREE public education.

Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School shared our appreciation of the work of Mrs. Shay in spearheading the annual Jog-A-Thon. Her countless hours of work behind the scenes certainly made the event smooth and comfortable plus the shirts look AMAZING! Our school also appreciates the numerous parent volunteers who came to campus to help us count the laps for our learners.

We are excited to share that our annual Alaka’i O Kaua’i Ninja Warrior Competition will be this upcoming Thursday, September 26th, and once again learning community members are warmly welcome to attend.

Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
