Director DJ’s Message

Aloha mai kakou to the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community. I hope this message finds you all in good health and happiness as we sail deeper into April.

Mahalo nui kakou for entrusting our unique charter school with the opportunity to provide top-notch FREE public education for your Keiki. In the theme of continuous improvement, we wish to share our intentional attempts to live our Mission Statement.

One component of the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School that we wish to examine is the teaching of the arts. Our school is extremely fortunate to have the ever-amazing Ms. Nicole as our incredible art teacher. We greatly appreciate her flexibility in teaching a push-into-the-classroom art program this year. We are excited to get started on the new buildings on campus soon, so that Ms. Nicole will have a dedicated Art Room once again.

Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School continues to work with outside organizations to bring a greater depth and exposure to music. Last Wednesday we were treated to a talented trio of musicians who shared their amazing musical skills on the violin, cello, and keyboard. We have been thrilled to have a drumming program visit campus and spend eight sessions teaching our learners about drumming from around the planet. We love when Kid Pan Alley comes for their annual work to support our learners in composing and performing their music. Heading into 2025-2026, we will continue to find greater opportunities to enhance all the arts on campus for our talented keiki. If you know of a community organization that could come and work with us at the school, please let us know how we can get connected.

Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
