Director DJ’s Message

Aloha mai kakou to the good people in the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community and hope this message finds you all in good health and happiness during the annual Summer Break. While it may be Summer Break for most everyone at Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School, there are several dedicated 12 month employees who work diligently in June and July to keep our school operating at a high level. One such dedicated person is Ms. Patricia who looks after the challenging duel portfolio of Human Resources and Finances.

Ms. Patricia is a rare gem of a person and we are extremely fortunate to have her guidance at Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School. In addition to a highly successful multi-decade career in the banking system, Ms. Patricia has served our school in multiple roles over the years and she is a pillar of strength in building our school success. Most people probably are unaware that Ms. Patricia started at the school working as an Educational Assistant, specifically with a keiki with high needs. Ms. Patricia skillfully and patiently worked effectively in this role and brought great joy and success for this student.

In addition to her wonderful work with the keiki, Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School also recognized the talent, experience, and precision in Ms. Patricia’s background and we asked her to fill a new role. At that time our school was moving away from off islands service providers to creating both Human Services and Finances on campus. Ms. Patricia once again stepped into a new role and basically built both programs from scratch into the high functioning operations that they are today. Much of Ms. Patricia’s work is used as a model for our colleague charter school as a true credit to the quality of her work.

Even with all this high level service, Ms. Patricia still finds the greatest joy being with the keiki. She routinely volunteers to come out front and help with the daily greeting our students. She is always willing to step in and volunteer with Special Events on campus and has been known to be the school mascot (Pueo), which is a prime example of her willingness to serve others.

Our great gratitude to Ms. Patricia for sharing her incredible array of skills and talents with our learning community. We would not be the fastest improving public school in the state of Hawai’i without her work.

Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
