Aloha mai kakou to the good people in the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community, and welcome to the start of the 2024-2025 school year. The school financial year commences on July 1st. With the fresh year comes the Wala’au Weekly, which is a name change of the weekly message to align more with our School Mission Statement.
On campus, the work continues in preparation for the return of our ten-month employees at the end of July and our learners at the beginning of August. This week, we are highlighting the outstanding work of “Dr.” Jon and Mr. Adam, who, under the curious eye of Board of Directors member Kumu Chris Town, are installing the new air conditioning units. You may recall that the generous people at the Pure Good Foundation did donate air conditioning units so all of the classrooms could be properly cooled, but this kind of gift did need proper installation far past the May 14th they helped on campus. Dr. Jon (who is a certified General Contractor with numerous skills) and Mr. Adam have been working on all the electrical connections needed for each and every unit. The positive end result has been cooling comfort for our campus when everyone returns soon.
The ever energetic Ms. Barb loves to paint and leave improvements wherever she goes. She has been busy do touch up paint around the school and last week focussed on the loft area of the Grade Five classroom. The ever improving school looks better and performs better each year due to the efforts of these people and many others behind the scenes. We salute their efforts and will continue to share photos of campus improvement each week.
Speaking of campus improvement please mark your calendars for Saturday, July 27th for the annual Campus Cleanup activity. There will be two shifts from 8am to 9:30am and 9:30am to 11am so everyone can still enjoy the Koloa Days Parade. A SignUp Genius will be distributed in the coming weeks so you can come and help out if you wish.
