Aloha ‘auinala to the good people in the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community and hope this message finds you in good health and happiness.
Shortly after 3 PM Tuesday, August 11, this announcement came forth from the Hawai’i Department of Education, and with a heavy heart it is shared with you:
Although we have been the only Hawai’i Department of Education or Hawai’i Charter School to have safely opened for face-to-face education starting on August 4 as promised, we will abide by this decision to respect the health and safety for all on our beautiful island. Accordingly we will follow this directive starting tomorrow and postpone the remainder of our Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School Orientation Days until Monday, August 17. Further details will follow, but we are pleased to share that with this sad news comes some measure of joy as our amazing facilitators will be greeting our learners for these orientation sessions next week in their classrooms.
As we plan to return to face-to-face on-campus education hopefully as soon as September, we do ask all learners to please do continue to drop off their school supplies for the 2020-2021 school year. We continue to be actively setting up our classrooms, plus to avoid a morning drop-off gridlock next week, please feel free to come to campus on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday this week to drop off the school supplies.
This is clearly not the news any of us wished to hear, but the safety and health of all in our learning community and island of Kaua’i is of paramount importance. We look forward to continuing to provide a high-quality education for our keiki and embrace the time when we have moved through these challenging times on our planet.
Best wishes to you all. Be safe. Be strong.
