Mr. Paul
Paul Zina is an experienced and passionate educational leader who has dedicated more than 27 years to serving the learners and families of Kaua’i. As Po’okumu at Alaka’i O Kaua’i, Paul draws on a rich background that includes roles as a teacher, vice principal, principal, and Complex Area Superintendent. His leadership journey has taken him through all educational levels, from pre-K to high school, and across multiple schools and Complex Areas on the island.
Paul holds a Hawai’i Public School Administrator Certificate and a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education from the University of Hawai’i. Throughout his career, he has been deeply committed to creating enthusiastic, inquiry-driven, and project-based learning environments that encourage students to think critically and engage with real-world challenges in their communities.
His dedication extends beyond the classroom—Paul is actively involved in various community planning groups and educational networks, including the Hawai’i Innovative Leaders Network and the Kaua’i Educational Leaders Network. He was recognized as the Kaua’i Complex Area nominee for State Principal of the Year in 2019.
Paul’s approach is rooted in collaboration and the belief that “‘A’ohe hana nui ke alu’ ia” — no task is too big when done together by all. At Alaka’i O Kaua’i, he is excited to support learners, staff, and families in cultivating a thriving, sustainable, and innovative learning community where every learner can grow and succeed.
