Kumu Chris
Kumu Chris Kauwe is a passionate native Hawaiian who loves teaching our keiki using non-traditional methods. Although he is not formally educated in a “Western” sense, he invokes hands-on, real-life applications of learning. Kumu Chris has worked in video production with local access television. He has also produced several radio programs at KKCR and served on their board of directors for two terms. Kumu Chris is presently on the Board of Directors for Malama Huleia (Menehune Fishpond) and for the last 18 years, he has worked with over 2000 local Hawaiian men in reestablishing cultural traditions and protocols.
Kumu Chris is excited to be able to be a part of our dedicated education to our Keiki at Alaka’i O Kauai Charter School and when asked about his teaching efforts, he said, “There are three ways of doing things. The right way, the wrong way, and the Kauwe”. Mahalo.
