School news and events for the week of 09.09.2024
Aloha mai kakou to the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community, and we hope this message finds you all in good health and happiness as we step a little deeper into September.
Mahalo for your patience in our search to find a top-notch Physical Education instructor for the 2024-2025 school year. As you may recall, the multi-talented Kumu Nouveau moved to the position of Vice Principal this year which created a vacancy in the school.
Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is thrilled to introduce Ms. Jesica Matsuoka as our new Gym teacher and she started on campus last week. Ms. Jesica is an experienced and successful Substitute Teacher on Kaua’i and knows the culture here well as she has keiki enrolled at our school. A warm welcome to Ms. Jesica and we are excited to have you teach our learners.
Speaking of learners, Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School will have our staff role model lifelong learning for our keiki on Monday, September 9th. This day is set aside by the Hawai’i State Teachers Association (HSTA) as a professional learning day so there will be no school for our students. Our staff will be examining data from previous years and then start working on curriculum mapping, project-based learning activities, and the Response to Intervention (RTI) program.
We wish to share our gratitude to all in our learning community for embracing the importance of playing outside at lunch and recess. Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is extremely fortunate to be located in a rural setting with ample space, equipment, and opportunities for our learners to be outdoors in nature. We also wish to share that a key component of the Socio-Emotional Learning curriculum taught in the classroom is practiced by our learners during recess as well.
Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
