Wala’au Weekly Update: Our First School-Wide Field Trip Ever!

We are thrilled to announce a historic milestone for our school community! On Wednesday, March 25th, 2026, all of our learners embarked on our first-ever school-wide field trip to the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall. We were extended a special invitation by the Garden Island Dance Academy to experience a free, world-class performance titled “Every Dancer Is A Star”. This rare opportunity featured the internationally acclaimed Cleo Parker Robinson Dance ensemble from Denver, Colorado.

Why this matters for our learners:

  • World-Class Artistry: The ensemble is led by Cleo Parker Robinson, a 2023 recipient of the National Medal of Arts—the nation’s highest award in the arts.
  • Cultural Learning: Learners had the opportunity to witness an excerpt from the metamorphic work “We Rise,” which reflects powerful moments of social change and the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement.
  • Connecting the Classroom: This trip united live artistic expression with themes of cultural understanding, resilience, and creativity.

We were so excited to share this experience as an entire school ‘ohana, using the arts as a catalyst for transformation and hope.

Mahalo and malama pono.
