Weekly Walaʻau: Strengthening Health and ‘Ohana Connections

Aloha Kākou Alaka’i ʻOhana,

As we continue to move through the first month of 2026, our focus remains on the holistic growth of our keiki—both inside and outside the classroom. This month, we are highlighting the first two pillars of our Healthy Habits Compass: Physical Health and Mental Well-being.

True health is a shared Kuleana (responsibility). We encourage our families to find intentional ways to engage with our keiki outside of school hours to reinforce these habits:

  • Pillar 1 (Physical Health): Take advantage of our beautiful island home. Whether it’s a weekend hike, a swim, or a simple walk together, moving as an ʻOhana is the best way to “Sharpen the Saw” and build physical resilience.
  • Pillar 2 (Emotional Well-being): Use the evening meal or the drive home to practice active listening. Asking open-ended questions about their PBL projects or their social-emotional goals helps our learners feel seen and supported.

By modeling these healthy choices, we show our keiki that Aloha starts with how we care for ourselves and one another. When our students are healthy and connected at home, they bring their best, most Pono selves to their learning here on campus.

Mahalo for your partnership in nurturing healthy, happy, and engaged learners!

Me ke aloha,
The Alaka’i Leadership Team
