School news and events for the week of 02.03.2025

Aloha mai kakou to the good people in the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community and hope this message finds you all in good health and happiness as we step into a Lunar New Year. We share our great gratitude to you all for your support of the annual School Choice Week celebrated on campus last week. We appreciate all the creative fun we enjoyed due to the organization of the ever-diligent Mrs. Shay.
As part of School Choice Week, we witnessed the start-up of the after-school sports programs on campus. Thank you to all the selfless volunteers who coach these sports, ensuring that they are free of charge for our learners. Both girls and boys basketball resumed their fifth year of operations while volleyball made an appearance for the first time in the history of the school. Watch for upcoming information on the Cheer Team that will commence in the coming weeks.
The marvelous musicians from Kid Pan Alley returned to work with our learners again this year. It is wonderful to hear their creative ideas grow into beautiful songs. Additionally, the “Name the Pueo” Contest saw a massive response from our learners and we were thrilled with the quality of their ideas. The winning name will be revealed at our next school-wide assembly in February.
A helpful update for your planning purposes: the annual Hawai’i State Teachers Association Institute Day will be held island-wide on Monday, February 10th and there will be no school for learners that day.
Best wishes to you all for a fabulous February. Malama pono.
