Message from the Director
Aloha to the good people in the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School, and we hope that this message finds you all in good happiness and health.
We greatly appreciate your support of our charter school. As we sail deeper into the month of September, we are pleased to share our first schoolwide project-based learning activity for the 2022-23 school year. You may recall or have heard that last school year we started with “DreamUp to Space” and we were extremely impressed with all the innovative projects our learners created. The culminating event for DreamUp to Space will be coming sometime this fall with the Team Ko experiment heading up to the International Space Station.
The first schoolwide PBL activity for the 2022-23 school year will be entitled Ku’u Kaianoho or translated to English as “My Habitat”. Once again we are excited to see where our learners may take this concept to create their project based learning activities. Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is blessed to be located in a beautiful remote setting with an abundance of nature all around us. Please have a look at some of the fruits that grow here right on campus that surround us daily. There are also some wondrous areas that our learners can access outdoors to help their understanding and appreciation of our habitat here on campus.
Please mark your calendars for Thursday, November 10th, for our schoolwide Celebration of Learning to conclude Ku’u Kaianoho. We will send out an invitation to our learning community to come to the gym and listen to our learners as they present their learning to the audience of our school. We will be scheduling each class to present at a specific time to help accommodate the opportunity for our parents to attend.
Mahalo for your support of our unique charter school and best wishes to all for a splendid September!
