School news and events for the week of {date}
Aloha to the good people in the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community. On behalf of our amazing school, I hope this message finds you well after an epic adventure on campus Friday.
Mahalo nui to everyone who contributed to the incredible “Dream Up to Space” project and the Celebration of Learning. Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is one of the fastest improving schools in the state of Hawai’i and this activity was another shining example of our learning community coming together to enjoy the sharing of learning from our keiki.
We are the first school in the world (that is right-the world) to have ever attempted running the “Dream Up to Space” project based learning challenge as a full school all the way from Kindergarten through 6th Grade. No matter the age of our learners, the depth of their learning and enhanced understanding of space were clearly evident. We were blessed to see a great variety of presentation formats ranging from song, dance, video, displays and actual MixStix that might be heading to the International Space Station. The pride and spirit of our keiki was on full display and we are blessed to work with such wonderful young people.
Let’s also remember the blessing of a dedicated and talented staff that helped guide the journey of “Dream Up to Space Project.” Their guidance and leadership to help our learners along the path of their projects is profoundly appreciated and speaks highly of their commitment to excellence. Putting together a school wide Celebration of Learning is a massive undertaking that requires countless hours over and above the normal challenges of teaching and supporting education. So, mahalo for making this celebration a reality.
Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is fortunate to have such a supportive ohana network in our learning community. Whether you could attend in person or virtually, the gift of your time to be engaged in the Celebration of Learning has powerful positive impacts on our learners, staff, parents and our school. Mahalo for making our Celebration of Learning such an incredibly enjoyable experience for all.
The knowledgeable assessor panel now has an incredibly difficult task of selecting the Semi-Finalists and eventually the Finalist from our school. We will share those teams out in our learning community via ParentSquare as quickly as possible and again next week in the Monday Message. The end result will be that the finalist project will literally “dream up to space” on a launch to the International Space Station projected in May, 2022.
Mahalo for your support of our unique charter school and malama pono.
