Monday message 01.08.2024
A belated Hau’oli Makahiki Hou to the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School and we hope the first week of 2024 is off to a splendid start for you and your ohana. As we eagerly await the return of our learners on Monday, January 8th, we will take this opportunity to remind everyone that our character trait focus for January is RESPECT. Let’s pause in reflection to RESPECT the great improvements made to our campus by the talented duo of Jon and Adam.
Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is proud that our roots are deeply embedded in project-based learning and over the last six years we have all witnessed significant improvements in the quality of the projects. In many of these circumstances, the quality of the learning improved in these projects due to strong RESPECT for the commitment to continuous improvement to support our learners. Jon and Adam have consistently built infrastructure on campus at the request of our creative staff to expand the depth of the learning that occurs during the projects. They have built numerous garden beds for several grade levels that have direct connections to project-based learning activities.
Jon and Adam have continued to expand our learning spaces on campus with the building of outdoor classrooms for almost every grade level now. In the coming months, they will commence the construction of our ‘Ike Hawai’i and Art classrooms that will be used in the 2024-2025 school year due to our expansion into Grade Eight next school year. Rafael (our current Board of Directors Vice Chairperson), Jon, and Adam met and planned the new building and we wish to express our appreciation for their efforts to move us forward into our bright future.
Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is pleased to share that the friendly and familiar Ms. Jynatha will be taking over the Grade Two class for the remainder of the school year due to the unexpected resignation of Ms. Andra over the break. It is GREAT to have Ms. Jynatha return to us as we greatly RESPECT her knowledge, expertise, professionalism, and support of our learners. Please join us in welcoming back Ms. Jynatha to our learning community. We will also be welcoming back Ms. Whitney on a part-time basis to help support the emerging needs of our growing school.
Best wishes to you all for a joyous January and Mahalo Nui for your support of our unique school. Malama pono.
