Monday message 02.12.2024
Aloha mai kakou to the good people in the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School, and we hope this message finds you in good health and happiness as we move deeper into the month of February. My apologies for the miscue last week with mixing up the months. We are definitely in the month of February, which brings the character trait focus of RESPONSIBILITY.
Mahalo for your support of life long learning as it forms a critical component of our RESPONSIBILITY of working with our students. On Friday, February 16th, the curious teachers will be taking their turn going to school at their annual HSTA (Hawai’i State Teachers’ Association) Institute Day and finding new ways to improve their craft of educating our keiki. Accordingly, there will be no school for students that day, which creates an EXTRA long weekend for our learning community as all schools are closed on Monday, February 19th, in observance of President’s Day.
Speaking of the RESPONSIBILITY of continuous improvement, we have shared a couple of photos of the good work performed by “Dr.” (PhD in Fixology) Jon and Mr. Adam. We now have two full music racks to hold the guitars, mandolins, and ukuleles that were built specifically to house the instruments safely. Dr. Jon and Mr. Adam have also commenced the planning stages for the construction of the ‘Ike Hawai’i and Art Buildings that we plan to use for the 2024-2025 school year. The upcoming addition of the Grade Eight class next year finds us in the happy expansion stages of adding more educational space for our learning community.
Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is extremely proud of Omar and Tino, who competed at the Kaua’i Spelling Bee on Friday evening, representing our school. They have both spent countless hours improving their skills by participating in the Spelling Bee, and we applaud their diligence.
Best wishes to you all for a terrific week ahead. Malama pono.
