Last week marked a very special week for most of our learners! Our 3rd-6th graders got to experience a combination of art, music, and Hawaiian culture activities. Next week, all of our learners will experience one of four specials (Spanish, music, art, Hawaiiana). I took the opportunity to observe learners participating in all of these activities, and they appeared to be excited and happy to participate and learn something new.

I have conversations with many Alaka`i O Kaua`i School parents who have expressed to me how happy they are to know that their children are experiencing extracurricular activities that research shows contributes to children’s desire to come to school every day, knowing they are going to be involved in lots of fun activities.

Next week, we will continue to provide our learners with more extracurricular activities. Twenty of our 5th and 6th grade learners will be given the opportunity to build their own ukulele, and then learn how to play it.

In conclusion, we are always looking for parents/guardians who are willing to share their skill or talent with our learners.
