Our Program
Alakaʻi O Kauaʻi Charter School opened in August 2018 and currently serves kindergarten through 8th grade, providing an additional learning choice among Kauaʻi schools. We are a public school free of tuition for Kauaʻi’s keiki. Our program incorporates three foundational cornerstones: Project-Based Learning (PBL), Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Individualized Learning Plans.
Project-Based Learning
Project-Based Learning (PBL) allows children to learn curriculum through fun, meaningful, hands-on and collaborative experiences. Projects inspire the children to learn and apply the content standards in a real-world, relevant way. Through research, self-discovery, and teacher facilitation, learners inquire and seek out the information they need to accomplish the goals of the project. In addition to understanding, applying, and retaining the content, PBL helps develop vocational and leadership skills that will last a lifetime.

Social-Emotional Learning
Academic achievement is only one component of a learner’s education at Alakaʻi O Kauaʻi. We also support the learner’s development of emotional intelligence, life skills and community engagement.
Individualized Learning Plans
Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) personalize goals and instruction for each child. We believe that learning should be interest-driven, peer-supported, and focused on powerful outcomes.

Our beautiful campus is located at Mount Kahili in Koloa, Kauaʻi. Our school community comes from many parts of Kauaʻi, including east, south and west sides of the island.
