Kumu `Ike Hawai`i

Aloha mai! Welcome to Alakai o Kauai Charter School, placed in the Aina that thrives in the richness of the many generations of my Kupuna who came before us, and a school mission statement that embraces “Hawaiian cultural traditions and values”, a practice that makes this place of learning so special. It has been an honor to take on the kuleana of Kumu Ike Hawaii, the past 3 years, for nearly 250 keiki, Kindergarten through Middle School. It’s a calling not taken lightly and one that I do my best to magnify each day, showing up intentionally to walk this educational journey with your keiki. The continued growth I strive for daily is reflective of this beautiful land that raised me, that raised my ohana, and the many thousands of my Kupuna that has led me right here where we are.

I am proud to be Kanaka and humbled to continue carrying the torch that lights our way to a meaningful and fulfilled future. Hawaiian culture, Ike Hawaii, hula, and the arts have all been a vital part of the ways in which I was raised and who I am. To live what I teach is crucial to my role. I have been extremely blessed to have traveled the world for over a decade, to many states and different countries, encountering all walks of life to share a part of my culture and who I am. My husband, Kumu Nouveau, along with our precious keiki, all find deeper meaning in our unique roles here at Alakai School. Mahalo for trusting us with your keiki. I look forward to meeting your ohana. Until then, malama kekahi I kekahi, take care of each other. E malama pono. Be well. Aloha.
