School news and events for the week of 07.29.2024
Aloha mai kakou to the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community. We hope this message finds you all in good health and happiness as we wind down the Summer Break.
Mahalo nui kakou to all who showed up and helped out at the annual Campus Clean-up on Saturday. Once again, we enjoyed a massive turnout of engaged volunteers who effectively assisted in setting up the classrooms and campus for the upcoming school year. Please accept this message of great gratitude for the gift of your time in improving our unique charter school.
One of the areas that not all of our visitors might have had the good fortune to see on Saturday is the recently renovated Art Room that has become the Grade Eight homeroom for the 2024-2025 school year. The room recently had new carpet installed, a new whiteboard added, and a smart television screen that will be used as a pilot project. Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School is examining a model of moving away from classroom projectors and into smart television technology as an interactive board. This experiment was used successfully at a colleague charter school in Colorado, so we are going to try out this pilot project in the Grade Eight homeroom.
As we enter into our seventh year of operations it is important to recognize those dedicated individuals who have served Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School since our opening. One of those talented people is Brian Cuda, who expertly looks after much of the programming that helps us communicate with our learning community. Brian looks after the school website and has made supportive changes on a monthly basis to make the experience much more user-friendly. Brian helpfully tends to all of our requests and we continue to see more and more important information become available by accessing the website. This very Wala’au Weekly message is also another area in Brian’s portfolio of service to our learning community, and we greatly appreciate his work in supporting our school.
This is a helpful reminder that the annual School Open House will be held on Friday, August 2nd, from 10 am to Noon. It is a perfect opportunity for everyone to come to campus to meet the staff and drop off school supplies for the upcoming school year.
The first day for students will be Monday, August 5th. In alignment with our normal procedures, the first day is an early dismissal day at 12:30 p.m. We understand that the return to school can be difficult, especially for our younger learners, so a shorter first day can be beneficial for them.
Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
