Monday message 05.06.2024

Aloha mai kakou to the good people in the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community, and hope this message finds you all in good health and happiness as we greet the month of May. As mentioned last week, the character trait focus for May is TEAMWORK, and this important skill is on full display as we create our fully expanded Middle School for the 2024-2025 school year.

Last Wednesday, we were able to find some time for the Middle School teaching team to come together in collaboration to start planning for the student’s arrival in early August. We will be using a hybrid model of teaching with our Middle School where students will be with their homeroom teachers in the morning and then rotate to their classes in Math, Language Arts, Science, and History teacher in the afternoons. In the homeroom times with their homeroom teacher, the students will have their Art, Physical Education, ‘Ike Hawai’i, Socio-Emotional learning, and project-based learning activities. Here are the Middle School teachers featured in the photo from left to right:

Ms. MJ – Grade Six Homeroom and Math teacher Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8

Ms. Emily – Grade Six Homeroom and History teacher Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8

Mr. Logan – Grade Seven Homeroom and Science teacher Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8

Ms. Kate – Grade Eight Homeroom (with Ms. Brett) and Socio-Emotional Lead Teacher for the school

Ms. Brett – Grade Eight Homeroom (with Ms. Kate) and Language Arts teacher Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8

We are excited for this next adventure in our unique charter school and look forward to continued success for our learners.

Ms. Jenny
Speaking of success, we wish to share congratulations to our incredibly kind Keiki Nurse, Ms. Jenny, on recently winning the Silver Lining Award at the statewide Keiki Nurse Meetings held in O’ahu last week. Anyone who has had the distinct pleasure of interacting with Ms. Jenny knows that she was a most worthy recipient, as she definitely has a contagious positive attitude toward all who have the opportunity to be around her.

Mahalo for your support of our unique charter school and best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead.
