Message from the Director
Aloha to the good people in the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School, and hope this message finds you in good health and happiness as we just completed our third week together in the 2022-23 school year.
The ancient philosopher Aesop once cleverly shared that “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” As we continue to grow and evolve in collaboration at Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School, these wise words capture perfectly our work together on behalf of the keiki.
Mahalo nui kakou for your support in helping the campus settle into our routines and procedures, especially with so many fresh shiny faces at our school. We are extremely pleased to see our returning learners step into their responsibilities in Social-Emotional Learning and help our new learners adjust to their new school. It speaks highly of the quality of the character of our learners and we greatly appreciate having such a supportive learning community.
Mahalo nui to the generous people who have stepped forward in kindness to serve our school as part of the No Hoa O Alaka’i Parent Teacher Network. We held our first meeting on August 10th and are blessed to share that we had a record number of people in attendance.
We held the elections and here is your executive team for the 2022-2023 school year:
- Kalina Harding, President
- Kelly Ann Hensley, Vice President
- Christine Frazer, Treasurer
- Marin Johnson, Secretary
We are also seeking any generous volunteers who may be willing to serve as the Room Representatives for each of the nine classrooms we have on campus. For this opportunity to serve, would ask the Room Representatives to please attend the virtual meeting on the first Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. plus help provide feedback, ideas, and thoughts about improving our school.
We are happy to share that several classes already have coverage but here are the areas still open:
- Ms. Joeanne, Kindergarten
- Ms Charton, Kindergarten/Grade One
- Kumu Kali, Grade Three/Four
- Ms. Collette, Grade Five
- Ms.Donna, Grade Six
We also wish to acknowledge all the helpful individuals who helped out with the Kaua’i Charity Walk events the last two weekends. The Kaua’i Charity Walk is a generous supporter of our school and we appreciate their good work supported countless other agencies on our island in addition to our school.
Best wishes to you all for a terrific week and malama pono.
