Monday Message

Aloha mai kakou to the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School and hope this message finds the month of January treating you well. Mahalo for your contributions to the successful return to campus for our keiki and after three shorter weeks we do see all the routines, schedules, procedures, and culture return to our school. As a school that has project based learning as one of the pillars of our success, this week is a perfect opportunity to share the continued growth of Ku’u Kaianoho (My Habitat). You may recall that Ku’u Kaianoho was our school wide project based learning activity that was presented in November. The work continues onward into the future.

Last week the ever inventive Ms. Charton invited parents to the classroom to help the students to make their own personalized stepping stones for the garden area. We were blessed to have a positive response from our learning community of parents who came to campus to assist with the creation of the stepping stones. In one single day of school, the stepping stones went from clay dust to finished product that is now proudly displayed in the garden area. This work provides another shining example of all parts of our learning community coming together for the benefit of our learners.

We consistently have parents who assist to improve the quality of the experience on campus for our keiki. The Chess Club on Wednesdays at Lunch is another example of the kindness of a parent to share their passion and expertise with our learners.

The No Hoa O Alaka’i Parent Teacher Network also does an OUTSTANDING JOB of providing support for our school. In the next week alone they will provide another Hot Lunch Day and assist the school with the operation of the annual Jog-A-Thon. We once again wish to acknowledge the countless contributions of this group under the ever steady leadership of President Kalina and Vice-President Kelly Ann.

Mahalo for your support of our unique charter school and malama pono.
