Derek Johnson

Derek Johnson, along with his wife McKenzie and two sons, Jess (7) and Mack (3) fulfilled a long-standing dream by moving to the beautiful garden island at the beginning of 2022. As a family, they have grown to love and respect the island, its traditions, its people and feel truly at “home”. Derek joined the board of Alakai O’Kauai because he believes in the school’s mission and understands the value of project-based, social and emotional learning. As the son of an educator, Derek understands the wide-reaching strength of great teachers, the importance of creating an environment that allows them to work at their natural best and the impact they can have on the lives of our keiki. He is inspired by the beauty of the school’s setting, the culture that governs its practices and the spirit of aloha within its walls. Derek is honored to be a board member and looks forward to serving the school and community.
