School news and events for the week of {date}
Aloha to the supportive people in the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community, and hope this message finds you all in good health and happiness. We continue to evolve and move forward as a unique charter school, and here are just a few examples from the last week.
We embrace the opportunity to provide education through project-based learning. Check out the finished product from our artistic 3rd graders, who turned beach garbage into a magnificent piece of art. The 4th grade class had some lessons and activities in their ever-improving outdoor classroom, which was built to answer their driving question. Mahalo e Kelly Ann, who looks after our project-based learning board located by the entrance to the main campus, which gives us an opportunity to show what each class is currently developing in their projects.
Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School also continues to build community partnerships at the local, state, national, and international levels. We are blessed to be involved with Project Vision Hawai’i and Vision To Learn, nonprofit agencies that provide free eye exams and free eyeglasses for keiki. These selfless agencies sent Dr. Nick and David to our campus last week for the next stage of this program with our school.
Mahalo to all the bus parents and guardians for your patience and understanding with recent bus pick-up time changes that came from Akita Transportation. We fully respect and understand how challenging last-minute changes are to your lives and can guarantee our learning community that we are doing everything we can to remain consistent in providing this service. As we currently have only one bus on contract from Akita Transportation, we are forced to accept changes to bus schedules as the traditional public schools return to their campuses.
On Wednesday, April 21, we celebrate National Administrative Professionals Day, and we wish to acknowledge three extremely valuable employees who help make our school shine. Office Manager Jennifer Glass, School Counselor Giselle Gregorius, and Human Resources and Finance Manager Patricia McCallister are all incredibly talented people who have empowered our charter school to move ahead in a positive direction. They quietly go about campus solving hundreds of challenges daily, which makes life much easier for everyone at our school. We appreciate and salute their contributions to our learning community, so please consider sending them a personal message in celebration.
Mahalo for your support of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School, and best wishes to you all for a terrific week.
