School news and events for the week of 01.20.2025

Aloha mai kakou to the Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School learning community and we hope this message finds you in good health and happiness on this long weekend.

On Monday, January 20th we will hopefully all take some time on a day away from school to reflect on the contributions of the remarkable Dr. Martin Luther King Junior. One of his immense number of powerful quotes that stands out is “I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality, and freedom for their spirits.”

We greatly appreciate your support of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter where we choose to have the audacity to believe that all people can have education and culture for their minds. As our school continues to expand, evolve, and explore we see tremendous growth in our young learners and are excited to see where their bright futures will take them in the coming decades.

Last week we were fortunate enough to host the state of Hawai’i Charter Commission Frameworks Compliance Team visit our campus as part of our Charter Contract 4.0. Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School has earned 127 out of 100 points on our annual MAI Report. I am happy to share that the remarkable 127 out of 100 is not a misprint as our school gained bonus points on multipliers as part of the performance equation. The Frameworks Compliance Team also left us with fresh ideas and challenges that we will cheerfully embrace in the theme of continuous improvement. One such idea that is exciting and informative is to track our learners after they leave our school in Grade Eight to see what amazing contributions they continue to make in our world.

Let’s all continue to have the audacity suggested by Dr. King and continue to advocate for a high-quality free public education for ALL the Keiki of Kaua’i.

Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
