School news and events for the week of 08.19.2024
Aloha mai kakou to the learning community of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School, and hope this message finds you all in good health and happiness after the long weekend of Statehood Day.
Mahalo nui for your support of our unique charter school and embracing all aspects of our School Mission Statement. Periodically we will share some aspects of our work showcasing an area of our School Mission Statement so we can continue to be accountable for living the words.
Socio-Emotional Learning is a key cornerstone of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School and this school year we committed to hiring a Socio-Emotional Teacher Coach. The search for a quality candidate was short plus sweet as the multi-talented Ms. Kate has stepped into this role for our school. Mahalo nui e Ms. Kate for your leadership, guidance, and expertise in this important component of our school.
A prime example of Socio-Emotional Learning on campus can be found by witnessing Classroom Buddies in action. This program matches various grade-level classes together so the students can share their learning. One of the positive outcomes is that student mentorship grows quickly across the school and relationships are built in new areas.
In our Ambassador Program, we bring students together across grade levels. The Ambassadors are all Middle School students who are assigned to an Elementary class. Every day we start with a Morning Piko followed by the Morning Assembly where the Ambassadors assist with their designated class. The program helps our younger students to be fully engaged in these activities while the Ambassadors must demonstrate positive role modeling for others.
A happy reminder that our learning community is always warmly welcomed to our Morning Piko which occurs right around 8:45 am on Main Campus.
Best wishes to you all for a wonderful week ahead. Malama pono.
