This week in yellow level, we welcome the Monday/Tuesday group on Monday, the Thursday/Friday group on Tuesday, and then staff only on Wednesday. If there is a change back from the yellow to green level after Thanksgiving, then an email indicating the change will be sent to you on Friday, November 27, for your planning purposes. Otherwise, please do expect to stay in a hybrid model of education until you hear directly from the school and a reminder that the threshold is 10 active COVID cases on Kaua’i or less for two straight days on a Thursday/Friday.
As we move into the Thanksgiving holiday this week, it is a perfect opportunity to reflect on the wonderful gifts we enjoy here at Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School. The author Robert Brault once wrote, “Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”
Walking around our beautiful campus daily is a happy reminder of the wisdom of these words. We are surrounded by the wonder of nature nestled here in the lush greenery of Kahili Valley, complete with nature’s finest of chickens, geese, ducks, horses, goats, and pigs. Even the challenging road back to our campus is surrounded by lush trees, including a healthy crop of bananas.
Our learners never fail to impress me with their innate curiosity about learning about our world. They are engaged in authentic learning and have demonstrated incredible resilience to the changing models of education. We are thankful for those magic days we share with them on campus and are blessed to be part of their lives.
Our learning community also never fails to impress me with unconditional support of our charter school. We fully understand and respect how incredibly challenging the 2020-2021 school year has been for you as parents and caregivers. We appreciate your patience as we truly attempt to do the best job possible of delivering a quality education. We are thankful for your continued support of Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School.
Best wishes to you and your ohana as you remember to enjoy the little things, which are really the big things, over the Thanksgiving break. We sincerely hope you enjoy time filled with friends, family, food, and fun.
