Kumu Nate Weston

Learning Leader

Kumu Nate comes to us from Aotearoa, New Zealand. For the past 20 years, Kumu Nate has been a teacher, administrator, and university professor around the world, including starting and rebuilding International Baccalaureate (IB) schools in Norway and Germany, as well as teaching in California, Mexico, and New Zealand. Kumu Nate has a passion for inspiring young minds to conquer mountains and has a vast knowledge of, and experience with, student-driven inquiry and Project-Based Learning.

Kumu Nate is joined by his family of two boys (Kai & Kaysen) and his loving wife, Chasa. When asked to join Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School, Nate replied, “I am super excited to join the AWESOME team at Alaka’i O Kaua’i and to help promote lifelong learning to our future generations of Keiki on Kauai”. Kumu Nate will be assisting with many projects and classes around the school, including teaching the Social-Emotional Classes and promoting and supporting the Presentations of Learning (POLs) throughout the year.

In his free time, Kumu Nate loves to surf, fish, hike local mountains with his family, and cook/BBQ with family and friends. He lives by the quote, “Life is all about the journey, not the destination”. -Mahalo
